Seramount now works with more than 640 partners, 90% of which are multinational companies. And as our <a href=\"https:\/\/seramount.com\/best-companies\/seramounts-global-inclusion-index-annual-application\/\">Global Inclusion Index<\/a> grows\u2014now spanning 29 countries\u2014it\u2019s clear: One-size-fits-all won\u2019t work. But she challenged attendees to think more expansively: What if ERGs could also be think tanks and strategic business drivers? What if we aimed for the <em>butterfly effect<\/em>\u2014a cascade of impact across business systems\u2014rather than one loud tsunami of change?<br>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ERGs were a key theme throughout the two days\u2014described by many as catalysts for shaping culture, creating belonging, and significantly influencing employee retention. 74% of global ERGs play a role in supporting employees&#8217; mental health. So, we were excited to share a preview of our new tool: Seramount Employee Group Maturity Assessment. Led by <a href=\"https:\/\/seramount.com\/person\/nichelle-wash\/\">Nichelle Walsh<\/a>, this tool will officially be launched on May 14<sup>th<\/sup> at <a href=\"https:\/\/events.seramount.com\/event\/emerge2025\/home?gad_source=1&amp;gbraid=0AAAAAoh6iw3_BtaNuzcZ8oSGgFV2IoHVn&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw_JzABhC2ARIsAPe3ynpJukRGwfCm9Fp1adVwNO9Fr4hPNrzsMZJrPPxOnHqPAWyFxCvnxx8aAqnpEALw_wcB\">EmERGe<\/a>, and several leaders had already remarked that the tool helped clarify their path forward. One called it \u201cpractical yet innovative.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/003.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54259\" style=\"width:492px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/003.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/003-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/003-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-resilience-responsibility-and-the-quietest-idea-in-the-room\"><strong>Resilience, Responsibility, and the Quietest Idea in the Room<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Shagufta Iqbal served as poet-in-residence, inviting participants to reflect on discomfort, identity, and the legacy they leave behind. In her first poem, she reminded the room that \u201cstrength comes in all shapes and sizes\u2014and sometimes, the brightest idea is the quietest one.\u201d As we climb ladders of leadership, she asked, \u201cAre we leaving one behind for someone else?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This work thrives only when psychological safety is in place. That theme emerged again and again\u2014from panelists, audience reflections, and in the quiet moments between sessions. How do we create cultures where employees feel safe to speak up, share struggles, and imagine what\u2019s possible? Get Hung Up on Contributions.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord Dr. Michael Hastings began his keynote by quoting Vladimir Lenin: \u201cThere are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hastings framed the current DEI moment as one of global transition by referring to a 1925 cartoon by Bob Minor titled \u201cOne day they&#8217;ll wake up.\u201d Hastings asked us, \u201cHow did he know?\u201d If we look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldmansachs.com\/insights\/articles\/the-global-economy-in-2075-growth-slows-as-asia-rises\">world&#8217;s top 15 economies throughout time<\/a>, power is shifting. Economies are transforming. It is paramount to not get caught up in one moment; organizations can either react\u2014or lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To lead, Hastings said, we must be brave enough to experiment. Sixteen years ago, the first mobile banking innovation happened in Kenya\u2014not Silicon Valley. \u201cThe world is diversifying whether you like it or not,\u201d he said. \u201cSo don\u2019t begin with assumptions. Begin with curiosity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He shared the wisdom of the Hawaiian rules\u2014reminders to speak softly, tell the truth, and without rain there wouldn&#8217;t be rainbows. \u201cIt\u2019s not about doing good business,\u201d Hastings said. \u201cIt\u2019s about creating valuable business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/006.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54262\" style=\"width:543px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/006.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/006-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seramount.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/006-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-global-ergs-anchored-in-culture-powered-by-strategy\"><strong>Global ERGs: Anchored in Culture, Powered by Strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Seramount\u2019s latest Global Inclusion Index surfaced an important truth: While ERGs remain a critical tool, success comes from alignment\u2014not replication. One speaker described an Irish leader tasked with increasing women\u2019s leadership in Japan. He introduced mentorship programs only to discover they didn\u2019t translate culturally and the team quit. \u201cGlobal competence prevents global blunders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across countries, the most common ERGs continue to center women, LGBTQ+ identities, and sustainability. Her advice? Ask better questions. Build shared understanding. Invite everyone to the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barry echoed that sentiment in a reflection on active listening. \u201cWe need to stop listening to win,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd start listening to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite headlines claiming otherwise, 78% of Seramount\u2019s global partners are holding firm to their DEI commitments. In APAC, DEI efforts may include things like married\/non-married statuses or rural\/urban divides. In Brazil\u2014where more than half of the population identifies as Black or of mixed African descent compared to 13% in the United States\u2014leadership demographics still mirror one another, with just 6% representation. It\u2019s a reminder that even shared challenges require localized solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Micro-inclusions matter. Empathy, family name recognition, and everyday kindnesses go far. When it comes to sustaining this work, inclusion isn\u2019t either\/or, it\u2019s always <em>and\/and<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-we-are-more-similar-than-we-think\"><strong>\u201cWe Are More Similar Than We Think\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That quote came from Kaushik Gopalan of TransUnion, whose team tracks internal mobility across 30+ countries. Gopalan\u2019s advice? Create culture ambassadors, dispel myths about who gets to advance in their roles, and broaden your view of what talent looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Russell at KPMG UK shared how collecting socioeconomic data helped them close equity gaps in promotion and retention. More people sharing their stories helped others feel safe enough to share theirs too.
